Let’s say I did some shopping over the last few months and now have an unintentional haul to share. Between the seasonal changes and some impulsive buys (the Loft IG ads really got me), I ended up with new pieces that became closet gems this summer.
I used to find summer styling difficult, but this year I stuck to a formula with a few key pieces: a good pair of cream denim, a few blouses, and fun accessories to add character.
Bottoms
I know denim, or any “heavy” fabric, isn’t ideal for summer, but for some reason I gravitated toward wearing denim and a tee or blouse throughout the summer. It’s an easy formula I knew I could wear day to night and trust.
The cream denim worked overtime these last few months, and I know for certain they will be perfect going into fall!
Another pant that I wore a lot this summer was these crepe wide-leg pants. They are such a low-effort pant: no ironing, easy to wash, and they paired perfectly with a tee, button-down, or cute top. I wore them to work and to dinner, making them a must-have.
Dresses
I purchased only one dress this summer, which is not shocking, as I said I mainly wore denim or pants. This linen floral print dress is so feminine and chic that I could not help but wear it to the most appropriate places: the Greenwich Polo and dinner at Ocean House in Rhode Island.
Tops
There was definitely no shortage of tops this summer because it was the category that needed the most refresh. The goal was to add color and texture as well as tops that felt feminine and timeless.
My most worn tops for the summer ended up being this white peplum- hem top and this pintuck-waist top.
In the middle of summer, wearing a blazer may not seem like such a good idea, but a good blazer is a must for cooler evenings or for more professional settings. I was really drawn to this very light bluish-green color blazer that is structured at the shoulders and tailored in the waist.
Accessories
Lastly, accessories! This summer, I was really into layering necklaces, and my favorite combination was the fish pendant with this pearl necklace. Was it trendy? Yes; however, I do not mind keeping my style classic with a few trendy touches, and accessories are the easiest and sometimes the most affordable way to do so.
Tuckernuck had a great sale in the middle of summer, so I picked up two fun evening bags that will serve me well this holiday season.
A pop of red is always a good idea, which is why I fell in love with the cherry red ballet flats. They will transition well into fall too!
