Many years ago, when I discovered the podcast The Simple Sophisticate, I fell in love with the idea of “petite pleasures.” Something small you may do or obtain for yourself that makes your life enjoyable or feel slightly elevated. I am sharing with you a few things I love that make my life feel a little more luxe, and as a bonus, I added some inspiration so you can too.
For me, some of these simple pleasures stem from my morning routine, starting with making my coffee at home. In the evening, I might use my favorite body butter, which smells divine. For you, it might be silk pajamas or lighting your favorite candle when you get home. These small things, whether monetary or non-monetary, are ways to make the everyday more enjoyable, even something to look forward to outside of our normal daily routine.
My petite pleasures and little luxuries include:
- Coffee at home – A few years ago, we invested in a Breville Espresso Machine, and since then, we have been so thankful that we pulled the trigger. Making coffee at home has become part of my morning routine, and I must admit, my afternoon routine, too.
- A monogrammed robe. Perfect now that it is slowly getting cooler.
- I use my favorite body butter after the shower.
- Using these eye masks daily.
- Investing in one daily fragrance and one special occasion fragrance.
- Enjoying a monthly dinner with my friends.
- Learning to play chess. I am using the Duolingo app!
- Swapping books with friends and discussing what books we love.
- Taking my worn shoes to the shoemaker – nothing is more satisfying than prolonging the life of my favorite boots.
- Going to yoga once a month with my Mom.
Feeding into the little luxuries of life does not always have to be physical things. Other small luxuries include being intentional with your time, how you spend it, and with whom. It might mean you start practicing the piano again or learning a new hobby such as knitting. This can also mean declining invitations that might take away from your time to relax or being around others who do not serve you. This is the only luxury I do not take for granted, as time is one of my most valuable assets.
Here are 25 simple ways you can add luxury to your daily life, and some do not cost you anything.
