Sharing what I read throughout the previous year is by far one of my favorite posts to write. I gained a sense of satisfaction from another year of reading new books and seeking new knowledge or just for pleasure, which means that I continued to do one thing that relaxes me the most, reading. See everything that I read in 2024 and what I look forward to reading in 2025.
I used to set my reading goals by quantifying how many books I wanted to read in a year. I quickly realized this was not right. I began to compete against myself on “how fast” I can read to meet this goal, instead of just finding the joy in the time I had to do it. Life gets busier each year, so I intend to continue reading for at least 30 minutes daily, which has worked out for me.
My favorite reads for 2024 were:
- The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman – We all have a desire to feel and be loved by our partner, family, or friends. This book explores what makes us feel loved or how we can make others feel loved whether it is through acts of service, gift-giving, quality time, etc. I thought this was a great read, especially as I was bound to be married this past year. I used this book as a tool for how I can be a better partner to my husband, but it also allowed me to realize what makes me feel loved which is quality time and acts of service. I highly recommend this book as a read before marriage or even during.
- 101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think by Brianna West – A very thought-provoking book. This book allows you to reflect on how you think, live, and feel. One quote to lead you into this new year from the book is “Stop asking what I am doing with my life, and start asking what am I doing today?”
- The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell – A suspenseful read as the story unravels what has happened to a young woman within a small English suburb. A quick read that leaves you wanting to know more. I enjoyed this fictional mystery to mix up book genres for this year.
I highly recommend you add those to your list for 2025 if you have not already read them.
On my list for 2025:
- The Mountain Is You: Transforming Self-Sabotage Into Self-Mastery by Brianna West
- Atomic Habits by James Clear
- The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley, Ph.D and William D. Danko, Ph.D
- Start With Why by Simon Sinek
- Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert
