Happy Monday, everyone! We are Alexis and Ariana, the twin sisters behind the Instagram account, @twinstahealth. Twinstahealth is where we share our healthy meals, favorite food brands, and fitness tips. We are so excited to be guest posting today! If you browse through our feed, there is no denying that we love toast. Toast is not only quick and easy, but there is also an endless amount of toppings to choose from. We firmly believe that if you are bored of toast, you are just not doing it right! Today, we are sharing with you five different ways to step up your toast game.
- Smashed Avocado + Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes + Crumbled Feta
This first toast is inspired by our favorite coffee spot on the Upper East Side, Bluestone Lane (we highly recommend their avocado toast and hot mocha). We placed half of an avocado, sliced heirloom tomatoes, and feta cheese on whole grain toast. Avocado is a monounsaturated fat, which is a healthy fat source that balances hormones, promotes satiety, and aids in proper brain function. We enjoy this toast combination in the morning, as it keeps us feeling full and balanced for the start of the day. The heirloom tomatoes add great color and sweetness (plus some antioxidants!), while the feta cheese adds some extra flavor to the meal.
- Kite Hill Plain Cream Cheese + Smoked Salmon + Microgreens
Smoked salmon with Kite Hill’s cream cheese is a toast combination we frequent often. Kite Hill products are entirely plant-based! Made from almond milk, this dairy-free cream cheese is a great option for people who are plant-based or unable to consume dairy products. We love both their plain and chive flavors. Smoked salmon is not only a source of protein but contains omega-3 fatty acids that are essential for your body’s cardiovascular health. For a pretty garnish, we chose to add microgreens, which provide a number of micronutrients.
- Sliced Prosciutto + Spinach + Sunny Side Up Egg + Red Pepper Flakes
This toast is a sophisticated take on the ordinary “bacon and egg” or “ham and egg” breakfast. Proscuitto has a great salty flavor and pairs well with a runny egg yolk. There are so many ways to cook eggs, so we often incorporate them into our morning meal! Eggs are high in protein, as they contain all essential amino acids. Spinach doesn’t only add more green to your diet but also boosts your folate and vitamin intake for the day. To add an extra kick, we like to sprinkle red pepper flakes.
- Creamy Almond Butter + Sliced Banana + Chia Seeds
If you are looking for an easy pre-workout toast, this one is for you! It is high in carbohydrates due to the bread and banana, while the almond butter provides some protein. The body’s first preferred source of energy during exercise is carbohydrates. Sliced banana is a great fast-acting carbohydrate that will instantly boost your energy levels for a successful workout. Banana is also high in potassium, which balances blood pressure and eases digestion. With regards to nut butter, our favorite brands include Wild Friends, Barney’s Butter, and TruNut Powdered Peanut Butter. We love regular nut butter, but powdered peanut butter is a great alternative. Since water is added to the powder, it is easy to achieve a certain consistency. We love using it to drizzle on oatmeal, yogurt, and waffles. Although chia seeds are tiny in nature, they are packed with fiber. A little sprinkle will keep you feeling full and satisfied!
- Spinach + Sliced Avocado + Nutritional Yeast
This isn’t your average avocado toast. Nutritional yeast is a popular vegan source of protein and rich in B vitamins. It has a nutty and cheesy flavor, making it the perfect cheese substitute for those who cannot eat dairy. We highly recommend adding it to egg scrambles, avocado, and even popcorn. Nutritional yeast is also for creating vegan salad dressings and sauces.
